yesterday we went tubing...and when i say "we", I mean, carson, nate, sarah, rachel, and superdave.
It looked like the perfect day for tubing....90 degree weather....sunny....a cooler packed with pop-cycles and lemonade....couldn't get any better....
We put the tubes in at 1:45...and it only took about 2 minutes for us to realize, we're not gonna be moving very fast down Salt Creek. during this adventure down the creek, nate caught a fish...in his lap...superdave grabbed (the fish) and threw it...it was a sight to see...We came to a point that we could see the 55 overpass...and the water was like a sheet of glass....no movement what so ever...superdave goes up the bank to see how close we were to any houses, cars, or any sign of life...nothing but cornfields...so what do we do...we hike through the corn field next to the creek instead of walking in mid-thigh deep water. Now keep in mind, superdave and i have watershoes on and nate, carson, and sarah have flip-flops on...rachel had nothing on her feet..and she still hiked with us..what a trooper...So we finally got back into the water and are under the 55 overpass. We asked some fisherman that were in a canoe that we had passed and been passed by a few times while in the creek "what time is it?"...it was 4:30 and we still had 4 miles to go...and superdave had to be back in mason city by 6. Superdave gives his shoes to rachel since we probly would be walking more and he decides to walk back to the cars in the park. He was going to hitchike down 55 to the exit and to the park. He said he got picked up after he walked back to business 55.
*Now imagine Superdave walking down 55 with no shirt and no shoes...
So we went on down the creek and decided that we needed to walk through the field cause it would make better time back to the car and easier since we wouldn't be going through water. So we walked....and walked...and walked...and after going through some weeds that made our legs feel like they were on fire, we jumped back into the creek and kept on going. we kept on going and were at mile marker 5. I know that we have to be close....so we keep going, rachel wonders up the side of the creek to see if she can see anything...any sign of life...cause we couldn't even hear anything...no cars...no nothing...Rachel spotted a hot air balloon and the rock quarry. We were close, real close. Somehow I managed to flip over without anyone helping me...imagine that, i dunked myself. Nate is about 100 ft ahead of the rest of us and as we turn the bend...he yells saying he can see the bridge. We walked that last leg of the trip and it never felt so good to be back to my car....We made it back...with one of the craziest tubing experiences ever.
After making it back to Rachel's we decided we would get cleaned up and go out to eat at Steak n' Shake. We ate...and we ate...and we ate...I had a double bacon steakburger, w/ cheese fries, chili, and a milkshake...plus cobler a la mode...oh it was heavenly....
